JOB TITLE:

Head of Application Services (Northern Ireland)

JOB ROLE:

Web developers build websites. Look into it a little further and you’ll see that the title spans a wide range of skills; from hardcore technical expertise such as programming, to the really creative design work. Whichever area of the process they work on however, a web developer must have an understanding of business needs in order to position the finished product in an ever increasing and cut throat market.

EDUCATION:

BSc (Hons) Computer Science at Portsmouth Polytechnic

WORK EXPERIENCE:

I have had a very varied role since leaving full-time education; at my first company I progressed from a programmer through to systems analysis and team leader. Since joining Fujitsu, my role has included spells in project management, consulting and operations management; before moving into management roles within the business in recent years. I have gained experience in different IT environments including:-

  • Applications implementation (e.g. Oracle / SAP)
  • Software development
  • Application management / support
    My current role is leading 200 Fujitsu software development and support professionals in Northern Ireland who deliver services to our customers both locally and across Europe.

SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE JOB:

  • Create a vision and common purpose then build teams of individuals who work together towards delivering that shared vision
  • Good client liaison skills both in the sales and delivery environments
  • Strong people managements skills
  • Time management skills to meet deadlines with realistic expectations
  • Ability to problem solve and understand the technical details when required
