JOB TITLE:

Software Developer

JOB ROLE:

A software developer creates software applications for businesses to use. An example of a software application is Microsoft Word. Tasks can range from design and analysis to actual systems testing of the software. The majority of the role involves the programming of the software. It is imperative the developer understands the end users needs to create an efficient software application.

After completing my degree, my first job was actually working as Customer Services Advisor for TalkTalk. 6 months later I moved into the CPW Networks IS department working as a NetSuite Administrator. After gaining experience within IS, I was promoted to my current role of Software Engineer.

SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE JOB:

  • Enthusiastic and Willingness to learn
  • Good problem solving skills – the majority of software will not work the first time
  • Knowledge of a programming language
  • Excellent communication skills – It is important that you are creating the software to exactly what the end user would like
  • Good team player
  • The ability to manage projects and meet strict deadlines
  • A good eye for detail – helps in completing projects to high standards
