The management of projects, typically involving the development and implementation of Broadcast Technology to meet identified business needs, acquiring and utilising the necessary resources and skills, within agreed parameters of cost, timescales, and quality.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
I did a University placement at Granada Media Group (Now ITV PLC), and secured a post-Uni job in the New Technology dept as a Media Technology Analyst. During the Granada/Carlton merger, I joined the newly formed ITV PLC as a software developer. Later, I moved on to Technology Specialist and then Project Manager for Broadcast Technology/Transmission.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Experience of successfully managing and implementing complex technology projects.
- A thorough and up to date knowledge of project management techniques and methodologies.
- Good knowledge of a wide range of Broadcast, Information and Communication technologies.
- Experience in managing third party suppliers.
- Commercially minded, with a strong sense of delivering real financial value from technology.
- Experience of managing and motivating a team with diverse skills.
- Excellent communication, organisational and negotiating skills.
- Enforces standards and good practices with an appropriate level of rigour – applying quality standards to all tasks undertaken and ensuring that nothing is overlooked.
- Advises on the available standards, methods, tools and applications in own area of specialisation and can make correct choices from alternatives.
- Can analyse, diagnose, design, plan, execute and evaluate work to time, cost and quality targets.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Proficient in principles, methods, techniques and tools for the effective management of projects from initiation through to implementation e.g. PRINCE 2.
- Proficient in the methods and techniques associated with planning and monitoring progress of projects e.g. product/work breakdown structures, critical path analysis, earned value, resource analysis, conflict resolution.
- Familiar with automated tools to assist in the project management process by automating mechanical tasks such as scheduling, resource balancing and time recording e.g. MS Project.
- Experience and knowledge of Broadcast Engineering, particularly in the Transmission environment.
- Proficient in methods and techniques for delivering effective presentations
- Proficient in methods and techniques for reporting progress and financial compliance against an agreed plan.
- Proficient in the identification, assessment and management of project risks, which could result in time or cost over-runs, or failure to deliver products which are fit for purpose.
- Proficient with methods and techniques for negotiating contracts for the supply of technology products and services.
- Familiar with line management, team leadership, motivation and development.
- Familiar with the system or method for the management of the quality of provided services.
- Familiar with methods and techniques for managing contracts to ensure that contractors adhere to agreed contract requirements.
- Familiar with statutory health and safety requirements relating to working environment e.g. building services, standby power systems, communication towers/masts, antenna erection.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Educated to degree level or holds a professional qualification.
- Minimum of 1 year’s project management experience.
- Broadly skilled in information, engineering and communications technology. Has a comprehensive knowledge of relevant development life-cycles.
