Facebook leaps off the page into real time chat…
It’s the missing link literally some of you have been waiting for – not only can you find old friends you’d forgotten about, now you can chat with them in real time, MSN style!
OK it’s not really the most boundary-pushing of technology, but it is a sign that Facebook is slowly but surely becoming the main contact centre for a huge proportion of your life. It is this very fact that has helped you to help make Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg the youngest self-made billionaire in history.
But is it actually any good?
Well, it has a few pitfalls – firstly is that it means that anyone on your list – ANYONE – whether they have limited profile access or not, can IM you. Oh, and you can only have on chat at once, which is far from useful when you’ve got your entire Facebook list to chat to! Right now it’s not all the way there, but it almost certainly will improve – but will it be enough to make them conquer the social networking world? Perhaps not. Have you tried it?
