Amazon was founded by Jeff Bezos who sold the first book from his garage in Seattle in 1995. It began as an online bookstore named Cadabra.com but was soon renamed because of the similarity to cadaver!

In 2008 Amazon expanded into film production and by 2008 the domain amazon.com attracted 615 million visitors annually. It sells almost everything from CDs, to DVDs, computers, jewellery, toys and customises the experience, offering recommendations and customer tracking.
