Musicovery – discover a truly personal radio…
Music to suit your mood
Musicovery is a genius website that lets you choose and explore music by mood, style, genre, decade and much more, really easily. Select your favourite genres from the list, choose the time period on the slider everywhere from pre-1950 to right now and select your mood by clicking how you feel on the very clever box – from calm to energetic (from bottom to top) and dark to positive (left to right). It uses these preferences to select a playlist which it displays as a colour-coded route-map with song information and artwork – even links to iTunes and Amazon!
Check out the ‘discovery’ button where it will deliberately select lesser-known songs and artists, giving you something much fresher than just hitting random on your iPod.
Mobile edition
The downside about Musicovery is that songs play in a noticeable lo-fi format, a bit worse than FM quality, but you can upgrade and get hi quality streaming for $4-5/month (about £2.50). But on the plus side, they have now launched a mobile edition, so if you get an unlimited data rate on your phone (like T-Mobile’s Web’n’Walk) you can get brand new music anywhere! Musicovery is a great way to find new songs and play with different styles of music. It isn’t really a game, but it’s got the same sense of exploration and fun as any web toy on the internet that if it links with other technologies like Facebook, could change web-radio forever.
