Police map out crime area
The government has employed a system of interactive maps to put us in the know.
Get smart about crime
Police started publishing monthly crime statistics on their websites in July 2008. This is the start of a broader initiative to provide more public access to local crime information. It will show where the crime hotspots are and where it is safer to roam.
You can use these maps to:
- See how well local police forces tackle crime with online crime maps.
- See where and when crimes happened (sometimes down to street level) as well as comparisons with other regions.
- Find out details about what’s being done by local policing teams to tackle crime.
Map mash up
The beta map mashes up Google Maps with crime statistics for each borough, using coloured overlays to indicate varying levels of criminal activity – from patches of dark blue (for low crime) to red (high). You can type in your postcode and see whether how the area you live in is rated for burglary, robbery and vehicle crime.
