Manchester City Mobilises Technology
Mobile mania shows no sign of having the whistle blown at half time…
Memorabilia or Mobilia
In this age of technological explosion the mobile seems almost antique. Even great aunt Agnes has been caught using hers occasionally to check the lottery numbers and dusting her first brick phone she keeps on the dresser. But that doesn’t mean its struggling to compete with new and zippier crazes. In fact it’s holding its own rather well. The scope of the mobile’s functions grows and improves as technology advances. In fact, soon all we’ll need is a mobile phone.
NFC – not ‘New Football Club’
NFC (Near Field Communication), is a wireless technology that enables tags inside phones to store information that could then be used in various ways. For example, to purchase concert tickets, with the details held on the tag inside the handset. A device at the venue would then read the ticket details when passed over it.
NFC on trial at MC
This technology has been trialed by Manchester City Football Club. Volunteers were provided with radio frequency-enabled mobile phones. These could be used to download tickets, open turnstiles, purchase merchandise and store electronic money.
All this makes the whole process of attending matches more efficient and enjoyable! The phones can also be used to promote special offers such as discounts for those arriving early to reduce crowd build-up.
