Festivals: A different kind of Techno
GPS is the latest in a series of technological advances helping to bring music into the 21st century…
GPS hits Glastonbury
170,000 people. 10s of 1000s of tents. No more wayward stumblings in the dark to locate your tent which looks just like every other mud spattered tent. New generation handsets have a GPS chip installed, which pinpoints the user’s exact location. This technology can be used by festival goers to track down lost friends and lead them more efficiently to their tents.
Orange goes Green
Orange used a wind-powered ReCharge pod at Glastonbury to boost the batteries of about 100 phones per hour. It also tested prototypes of dance-powered chargers. Arm bands containing a system of weight and magnets create an electrical current to top-up a storage battery as wearers move to the music.
O2 festival goes posh
The O2 festival in Hyde Park offered swipe cards providing access to luxury toilets with paper and hand wash! Ooh er! Those subscribing were also issued with wristbands containing a special chip that gives access to the toilets and also allows them to get drinks more quickly at the festival bars!
