Club Penguin

The Club

Club Penguin is an online game and social networking site aimed at 6-14 year olds, where users can create their own penguin profile and waddle around in a virtual snow-covered penguin wonderland. The people who created Club Penguin are the Canadian graphics software company New Horizon Interactive, but in 2007 they sold the site to Walt Disney. This online community is growing at an incredibly speedy rate and in 2007, just two years after its launch, Club Penguin had 12 million user accounts.

The Cool Stuff

When designing the site, New Horizon Interactive obviously turned to their creative side because they managed to think up tons of great features that make Club Penguin fabulously good fun. As a result, players can get involved in a huge variety of different activities such as art work, games, acting in virtual plays, writing on the blog, chatting to friends and even attending the virtual party that is held every month.

Each penguin can express different emotions depending on the way their user feels, for example happy one day but sad the next which gives them real individuality. Additionally, players can have pets known as Puffles which are small, fluffy creatures that have different personalities depending on their colour. Puffles can be bought at the pet shop and must be looked after, otherwise they will run away from their player. And finally, to top it all off each player even gets their own virtual igloo to live in! So all in all Club Penguin seems like a pretty cool place to be.
