Queen’s has more than 25,231 postgraduate and undergraduate students, both full-time and part-time, making it one of the largest Universities in the United Kingdom.

The University has more than 250 buildings, of which the red brick Lanyon building is the most recogniseable, and is located at the apex of Belfast’s famous ‘Golden Mile’ of pubs, clubs, cafe bars, restaurants and entertainment venues. These, combined with cultural options such as museums, galleries and theatres, provide a bewildering choice of activities for our students.

Queen’s is a member of the prestigious Russell group which is comprised of the top 20 research intensive Universities in the UK. Because of this, students can look forward to being taught to the highest standards by academics who are both world-class teachers and researchers. the University is currently implementing a £200 million investment programme in students, staff and facilities. Major refurbishments have been completed and the Elms student village, the Physical Education Centre and the Students’ Union and a new landmark library is currently under construction.

Queen’s outlook and reputation are truly global. The Chancellor is Senator George Mitchell, the US statesman who made an enduring personal impact upon Norther Ireland’s peace process. The University attracts students from over 90 countries worldwide.

The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is one of the largest Schools in Queen’s. It has an international reputation due to its far reaching research research activities and many successes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Consistently in the top 10 of UK University league tables for its subjects, the School currently attracts students from over 20 countries worldwide.

Headed by Professor John McCanny, in 2003 the School set up a new £40m world-class centre for research, the Institute for Electronics, Communications and Information Technologies (ECIT) based in the Northern Ireland Science Park in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter.

This prestigious integrated programme in Computer Games Design and Development (including an optional placement year) involves the development of the necessary programming, content management and architectural design skills. It provides you with a full development experience from concept through design and development to final implementation in preparation for a development-oriented career in the industry.

    There is a shortage of programmers in the games industry so this course concentrates on the programming side of creating a game. Graduates of this course may go on to work not only for games design companies but other software development companies due to the high programming content of the course.

    Degree Title:

    BSc in Computing and Information Technology.

    Degree description:

    If you are more interested in the ‘hands-on’ side of the computing industry this course may be for you. Like to know how a computer actually works, how to keep a system running, set up email accounts etc?….the Computing and Information Technology programme aims to give you a sound knowledge of information technology fundamentals and their application.

    The four-year degree programme (three years plus a placement year) involves the development of the applied computing, interpersonal, communication and IT skills necessary to select, deliver, manage and maintain cutting edge IT infrastructures and advanced IT systems. This degree may lead to a job such as a System Administrator/IT Support role in a broad range of companies such as banks, hospitals, city councils etc.
